After France’s win in this year’s Junior Eurovision Song Contest, countries are now starting to announce if they will be in next year’s competition or not. One of those countries we won’t see is Denamrk, who has revealed they won’t be participating in 2023.
“It is not something we are interested in participating in”
Speaking about Denmark’s participation at Junior Eurovision, Marlene Boel, the Head ofย DR’s children programming mentioned that Junior Eurovision is not a priority, but they will continue with MGP Junior:
I am aware that Junior Eurovision has developed over the years and has also addressed some of the criticism that DR had of the show when we withdrew in 2006. But right now, Junior Eurovision is neither a priority for us or something we are interested in participating in.
For us, MGP is something we play, and for us all the participants are winners.ย We do not believe that participating in a competition such as Junior Eurovision will improve the children’s offer at home.ย We direct our focus on the tasks that we think are relevant for the children

Denmark’s non-participation would see them miss out on the competition, for the eighteenth year in a row. Denmark has not participated in the competition since 2005 when the competition took place in Haaslet.
Denmark’s Junior Eurovision Journey
The Scandinavian nation was the home of the inaugural edition of the competition in 2003, where they were represented by Anne Gadegaard with the song “Arabiens drรธm”, which placed 5th. They participated until 2005, which saw them represented by Nicolai and the song “Shake Shake Shake”, which ended up as Denmark’s best result in the competition to date.
