Ahead of tomorrow’s 2023 Junior Eurovision Song Contest, the BBC has released a documentary detailing UK participants’ STAND UNIQU3 journey to Nice.

The Documentary

The documentary details Yazmin, Hayla and Maisie’s journey to Nice from how they started singing to the audition process to the moment they learned that they are representing the UK. The documentary also reveals how they came up with the name ‘STAND UNIQU3’ as the group describes themselves as confident and unique, with Yazmin’s mum suggesting the name ‘STAND UNIQU3’ and the group felt that it fit their vibe. We also see parts of the recording process, the group learning choreography, their styling process and more. They show the behind-the-scenes process of recording their music video, as well as all the media they did following their announcement, including their performance on Children in Need.

UK fans can watch the documentary on BBC iPlayer here. It has also been uploaded to YouTube if you’re outside the UK.

The UK’s Junior Eurovision History

The United Kingdom was one of the first countries to take part in the first edition of the Junior Eurovision Song Contest in 2003. Represented by Tom Morley and his song “My Song for the World”, the UK finished in 3rd place in Copenhagen. At the close of voting, Morley earned 118 points, only behind Spain and Croatia. The UK would compete a further two times, with their most successful attempt coming in 2004. In Lillehammer, Cory Spedding finished in second place with her song “The Best is Yet to Come”.

The country returned to the Junior Eurovision Song Contest in 2022 after a 17-year absence. The United Kingdom was represented by Freya Skye with her song “Lose My Head”. In Yerevan Freya scored 146 points, placing her 5th. Freya received 66 points from the professional juries and 80 from the online voting – which was the most a country received in 2022 from online voters.
