🇮🇪 Wild Youth releases Eurosong 2023 entry – “We Are One”

The competing songs taking part in Ireland’s selection for Eurovision 2023 are continuing to be released. The band Wild Youth will take part in Eurosong 2023 with their song – “We Are One”.

Wild Youth’s song was first heard on the Ryan Tubridy show on Monday morning. A 20-second snippet of the song was played, alongside the remaining five competing artists at Eurosong this year. Following this, the song was made available for streaming and downloading.

Tubridy also gave added details regarding Eurosong 2023, which is due to take place on February 3rd. It had already been announced that the in-house panel will not cast a vote, Instead, a national jury will join the international jury and the public vote, which will be used to determine the winning song. Six songs are to take part in the selection, being held as a Late Late Show special.

Who are Wild Youth?

Wild Youth is a Dublin-based indie-pop band which originally formed in 2016. Their début single “All or Nothing” became a minor hit in 2017, leading the band to support artists including Zara Larsson and Niall Horan. Subsequent tracks, including “Can’t Move On” – released in 2018, have gone on to garner hundreds of thousands of streams. Their first EP, ‘The Last Goodbye’, reached the top 5 in the Irish charts in 2019. Wild Youth’s Eurovision effort – “We Are One” – was written by the band themselves, alongside Grammy-nominated Swedish songwriter Jörgen Elofsson. Speaking about the song, the band said:

We are so delighted to be here. Eurovision is something we have always loved and would love to represent our country. We hope that everyone loves the song that we’ve written and believe we can be the band to represent Ireland this year.

Ireland’s Eurovision journey

In 1965, Ireland made their debut in the Eurovision Song Contest with Butch Moore and the song “Walking the Streets in the Rain”, which managed to place 6th. Since their debut, Ireland has participated 55 times (making the Grand Final 45 times), and has won the competition seven times, which is currently the record for most wins.

Ireland’s latest Eurovision participation saw them being represented by Brooke Scullion, with her song “That’s Rich”. She placed 15th in the semi-final, receiving 47 points from the jury and televote.
