🇷🇸 TES Preview “A performance viewers won’t forget”

Today the rehearsals for Eurovision 2023 has kicked off in Liverpool. Countries rehearsing on Day 1 include Norway, Malta, Serbia, Latvia, Portugal, Ireland, Croatia, Switzerland, Moldova and Sweden. Third to rehearse today is Serbia’s Luke Black.

Luke Black’s first rehearsal

Another act to take to the Eurovision 2023 stage at Liverpool Arena in Liverpool was Serbia’s Luke Black. He will be competing in this year’s competition with his entry “Samo Mi Se Spava” following his win in the Serbian selection ‘Pesma za Evrovizjiu’.

Following Luke’s first rehearsal a clip of what went on was posted on the official TikTok account of the Eurovision Song Contest. The clip showed Luke Black before and after he took to the Eurovision stage for the first time, as well as giving us some insight into how well her first rehearsal went.

What did we learn about Luke Black’s staging?

According to the Eurovision 2023 liveblog, Luke’s performance mainly mirrors his Pesma za Evrovizjiu 2023 performance, where he is wearing his white shirt, and is accompanied by four backing dancers, with trailing tubes, the infamous oyster comes back again.

Who is Luke Black?

Luke Black is the stage name for 30 year-old singer Luka Ivanovíc originally from Čačak in Serbia. However, since 2018 has been residing in London in the United Kingdom.

Luke kicked off his music career in 2010 when he released the song “D-Generation”. Luke was soon recognised by record labels and was later signed to the Universal Music Group. Luke’s first single was released in 2014 and was entitled “Nebula Lullaby”. In 2014 and 2015 Luke started to get more recognition in Serbia and re-released his song that started it all in 2015, following on from performances at the Belgrade Youth Center. Following this Luke released his first EP Thorns in September 2015.

Luke’s song “Demons” – which he released in 2016 was nominated to represent Serbia at the 2016 contest however this ultimately lost out to “Shelter”. In 2018 he later relased his second EP “Neoslavic” before taking a break from music for a couple of years. Later Luke returned to music as an independent artist and released his 3rd EP “F23.8” alongside a single “A House On A Hill”

In 2023 Luke was approached about Serbian national final Pesma Za Evroviziju, which he won with his song “Samo mi si spava” Luke’s Eurovision song was entirely self-written.

Serbia’s Eurovision Journey

In 2007, Serbia made its debut as an independent country (they previously participated through Yugoslavia & Serbia & Montenegro), where they were represented by Marija Šerifović with “Molitva, which managed to win the competition. Since their debut, Serbia has participated 14 times (11 of which, where they qualified for the Grand Final).

Their recent participation saw them being represented by Konstrakta, with the song “In Corpore Sano”. At this year’s competition, Serbia managed to qualify for the Grand Final, where they placed 5th after receiving 312 points from the jury and televoters.
