With Loreen winning Eurovision 2023, Sweden will be hosting next year’s competition, which will be the 50th anniversary of ABBA’s win in Brighton. With this in mind, it has been intensely rumoured that the band might reunite. However, this was instantly shut down by ABBA members Björn Ulvaeus & Benny Andersson.
Ruled out a reunion amongst other things
In an interview with Victoria Derbyshire for BBC Newsnight Björn Ulvaeus & Benny Andersson have shut down rumours that ABBA will be reuniting in person when Sweden hosts the competition next year. With Björn saying that “We can celebrate 50 years of ABBA withous us being on stage”.
We are still early days in the planning of Eurovision 2024, as cities across Sweden express their interest in hosting the competition next year. Only time will tell if whether the 50th Anniversary of ABBA’s win will be featured in some shape or form.
ABBA’s Eurovision Journey
Prior to their participation at the 1974 Eurovision Song Contest, the group participated at Melodifestivalen in 1973 with “Ring Ring“, which unfortunately failed to qualify. However, the group participated once again with “Waterloo” in 1974, which saw them take the win in Brighton.
