As we await the official release of Ireland’s Junior Eurovision 2023 entry “Aisling” by Jessica Mckean, we now know who will be working on the country’s eighth entry to the competition.
Some familiarity in the songwriting line-up
“Aisling” will have the music composed by Niall Mooney, Ken McHugh, and Will Weeks, with the lyrics being written by Niall Mooney, Ken McHugh, Will Weeks, Niamh Mooney and Sophie Lennon. In terms of familiarity, the main name that stands out is Sophie Lennon, who represented Ireland last year in Yerevan, where she placed 4th, earning the country its best result. In addition to this, Niall Mooney, Ken McHugh were also part of the songwriting team for Sophie’s entry.
Ireland’s Junior Eurovision Journey
Ireland first participated in the Junior Eurovision Song Contest in 2015. Dรฉbuting alongside Australia, Ireland was represented by Aimee Banks singing ” Rรฉalta na Mara”. At the close of voting, Ireland finished in 12th place – receiving 36 points. Ireland has since participated a further seven times. Their best placement came in 2022, when Sophie Lennon finished in fourth place with her song “Solas”.
In 2022, Sophie Lennon represented Ireland in Yerevan with her song “Solas”. Ireland’s most recent participation, she finished 4th in a field of 16, earning 150 points. Of these, 88 came from professional juries, whilst the remaining 62 were from the online vote.
