Sudden Lights performing in the first semi final at the 2023 Eurovision Song Contest in Liverpool, England.

Today, Latvian broadcaster LTV has revealed that 108 songs have been submitted to Supernova 2024. This competition will determine their representative for Eurovision 2024 in Sweden.

Supernova 2024

After confirming their participation in September, this is the first major step towards determining Sudden Lights’ successors. LTV has received 108 songs for Supernova 2024, a slight decrease of 13 relative to last year. The songs will now be assessed via a jury before an unspecified number are picked to move on to the live shows. The artists taking part in Supernova 2024 will be revealed sometime in January 2024, before the live shows themselves in February 2024.

Latvia’s Eurovision History

Latvia made their Eurovision debut in 2000, finishing 3rd with “My Star” by Brainstorm. They have performed at every contest since and managed to win in 2002. Marie N sang “I Wanna,” scoring 176 points and bringing Eurovision to Riga in the process. Latvia also managed to finish in the top 10 two more times, in 2005 and 2015.

Latvia’s most recent entry on the Eurovision stage was Sudden Lights, who performed “Aijā”. Unfortunately, the song failed to qualify from the semi-final, finishing 11th with 34 points from the televote.
