🇱🇺 Joel Marques: “I was surprised to be selected for the finals”

Luxembourg is continuing its preparations for Luxembourg Song Contest 2024. As the artists gear up for the final on January 27th, Jonathan speaks to Joel Marques. He is vying to represent Luxembourg in Malmö with his song “Believer”.

During their interview, Jonathan and Joel talked about the recording process of “Believer”, as well as going into another competition, after participating in The Voice, his memories of the contest, as well as revealing what we can expect from him after taking part at the selection.

About Joel Marques

Joel Marques is a singer-songwriter whose soulful voice resonates deeply with audiences. He is no stranger to competition, having competed in The Voice Germany, where he managed to reach the Semi-Final stage of the competition. He is vying to represent Luxembourg with his entry “Believer”, which was written by Marvin Dupré, Brice Lebel and Clément Mouillard and produced by Noroy.

Luxembourg’s Eurovision Journey

Luxembourg first made its debut in the first edition of the Contest in 1956, with their first entries being “Ne crois pas” and “Les amants de minuit”, both performed by Michèle Arnaud. Since the first Contest, Luxembourg has competed a total of 37 times. Their best result was finishing in 1st place five times – in 1961, 1965, 1972, 1973 and 1983 respectively.

Luxembourg last took part in the Eurovision Song Contest in 1993, when Modern Times represented the nation with the song “Donne-moi une chance”. At the close of voting, Luxembourg finished 20th in a field of 25 with 11 points. Following this participation, Luxembourg withdrew from the Contest, but is returning to the Contest in time for 2024.
