The Swiss Broadcasting Corporation announced today that Nemo will represent them with “The Code” at Eurovision 2024. “The Code” was written by Nemo Mettler, Linda Dale, Benjamin Alasu and Lasse Nymann.
Switzerland at Eurovision 2024
Switzerland has enjoyed a Eurovision renaissance in recent years, having qualified to the Grand Final all four times since 2019. This success has predominantly come from young male ballad singers; however, it was confirmed via Instagram that this year’s song would not be a male ballad.
SRG SSR allowed open submissions in August of 2023; while interested parties from any nationality could submit, priority was given to those with a Swiss connection. Public panels from Switzerland and internationally as well as an expert jury assessed the songs, and ultimately landed on “The Code”.
Switzerland’s Eurovision Journey
Switzerland both hosted and debuted in the inaugural Eurovision Song Contest in 1956. Their first participation was successful, as they won with Lys Assia’s “Refrain”. Since then, they have participated on 62 occasions, making the Grand Final 51 times.
Remo Forrer most recently represented Switzerland with “Watergun”. Performing in the first semi-final, he qualified for the Grand Final for Switzerland’s fourth consecutive participation. In the final, Switzerland finished 20th, after receiving 92 points. Of these, 61 came from the jury and 31 points came from the televote.
