As we now have the songs competing for this year’s competition in Malmö, the team at That Eurovision Site will be reacting to the entries that will be participating at Eurovision 2024. The next Eurovision 2024 entry we will be reacting to is Ukraine, who will be competing in this year’s competition with “Teresa & Maria” by alyona alyona & Jerry Heil.
Our thoughts on “Teresa & Maria”
In this series, we will be providing our opinions in two methods. One of our team members will be reacting on video, which you can see below, whilst up to three members of the team will be giving their written opinion on the entry. Tim will be on the main seat and will be giving his video reaction to “Teresa”
What did the other members of the team think of “Teresa & Maria”?
Jazzi : I love this, this is the first song that has been selected where I go… this could win Eurovision. I love the Ukrainian folk ballad mixed in with traditional modern hip hop elements. I think it’s a really nice powerful blend. I do like the message of empowering big female figures in Ukrainian religious culture, I do find that a really positive message to be sending out. I could really see win number 4 coming Ukraine’s win with this. If not it is at least a lock top 5 in my opinion.
Angus: I have to admit that I was at first hoping for something a bit different by these two, but this song is stellar and I couldn’t be happier that this is going to Eurovision. The lyrics are good but the music… Now that is something I could wax lyrical (pun intended) for hours about. The tiny brass instrument licks at the back of the track alone are enough to make this one of my personal favourites this season and if Suspilne do their usually strong job with translating a NF performance to the Eurovision stage, I think this song should do very well.
Daniel: I have been obsessed since the very first listen. One of my favourite songs of the entire Eurovision season, I was mildly terrified it would lose in Vidbir (as songs I like have a habit of doing!) s I was incredibly happy when they won. Musically this feels almost angelic, as if it were something a higher power would listen to. Jerry & Alyona are both incredible artists in their own right, and I think their styles synergise surprisingly well. Teresa & Maria is currently one of two songs I’ve had “Winner Vibes” from this Eurovision cycle.

Ukraine’s Eurovision Journey
Ukraine is one of the most successful countries to participate in the Eurovision Song Contest. The country has scored eight top-five placements, with an extra four top-ten finishes. Ukraine won the Contest three times – in 2004, 2016 and 2022 respectively. Ukraine made history for being the first ex-Soviet country to win the Contest more than once.
In 2023, TVORCHI represented Ukraine as co-host entry in Liverpool with their song “Heart of Steel”. The duo finished in 6th place, scoring 243 points – of which 54 points came from the jury, whilst the remaining 189 points came from the televote.
