As we now have the songs competing for this year’s competition in Malmö, the team at That Eurovision Site will be reacting to the entries that will be participating at Eurovision 2024. The next entry we will be reacting to is the Luxembourg, who will be competing in this year’s competition with “Fighter” by TALI.

Our thoughts on “Fighter”

In this series, we will be providing our opinions in two methods. One of our team members will be reacting on video, which you can see below, whilst three other members will be giving their written opinion on the entry. Tim will be on the main seat and will be giving his video reaction to “Fighter”

What did the other members of the team think of “Fighter”?

Jazzi: I do think the use of French in this is really neat. I will admit there were other songs in the selection I preferred. However this is a solid girlie bop entry. I am unsure whether it will stand out enough to qualify, however their is just nice to see Luxembourg back in the contest after so many years.

Euan: Overall I think this is a great track, but I think there are serious issues with the backing track. The instruments and how they’re used make the whole thing feel quite dated, and not really fitting to the rest of the track. I think this is a huge shame, because in its bones there’s a good song her. I love Tali’s vocals and think they fit really well with the song. I hope the revamp works out these issues because I think there’s a solid qualifier and great song here.

Luxembourg’s Eurovision Journey

Luxembourg first made its debut in the first edition of the Contest in 1956, with their first entries being “Ne crois pas” and “Les amants de minuit”, both performed by Michèle Arnaud. Since the first Contest, Luxembourg has competed a total of 37 times. Their best result was finishing in 1st place five times – in 1961, 1965, 1972, 1973 and 1983 respectively.

Luxembourg last took part in the Eurovision Song Contest in 1993, when Modern Times represented the nation with the song “Donne-moi une chance”. At the close of voting, Luxembourg finished 20th in a field of 25 with 11 points. Following this participation, Luxembourg withdrew from the Contest, but is returning to the Contest in time for 2024.
