With the bidding race for Eurovision 2025 well underway, Zürich could be poised to submit a bid to host the Contest next year.
Zürich “behind the event”
In a motion that was brought by the SP and glp parties before the Council on Wednesday (June 12th) – the local parliament in Zürich approved the suggestions.
Speaking on the decision, Marco Denoth from the SP party said:
Wir wollen zeigen, dass das Parlament hinter dem Anlass steht.
We want to show that parliament is behind the event.

In the debates about the motion to submit a bid, the Council, which governs the Zürich canton, had agreed that submitting a bid to host the show would help to boost the local economy, and help to put the city on the map, according to 20Minuten.
This was echoed by Zürich’s mayor Corine Mauch, also of the SP, who said that the city itself is “highly motivated” to play host for next year’s Contest. She added that the city has been touched by “Nemo’s magic” and wants to capitalise on it.
However, the SVP was opposed to the bid, saying that the bid was “chauvinistic”. Meanwhile, the Green Party were divided about the issue during the debate and this was reflected in the party’s voting on the motion. The bills were eventually passed, with the joint proposal by the SP and glp being passed by 64 votes to 14, with 26 abstentions.
As a result, Zürich now joins Basel and Bern and Biel/Bienne to formally express an interest in submitting a bid. However, no specific details regarding the details of the bid have been released publicly. All interested cities have until the end of June to send their bid books to broadcasting association SRG SSR.
