🇨🇭 Zurich to decide on Eurovision 2025 bid by the end of June

With the planning for Eurovision 2025 in full swing, interested cities are looking into the feasability of hosting next year’s competition, and that includes Zurich, which will decide at the end of June if they will be pursuing a bid.

Bidding being studied with ‘High Priority’

As reported by Tages-Anzeiger, it was revealed that the city is reuqiring further clarifications about next year’s competition before making a decision on whether or not Zurich will be making a bid. SRG SSR is to provide the information, with the city set to decide on the bid by the end of June.

It was mentioned that that the decision on whether a bid would be submitted is being studdied with “high priority”. The city is expected to bid with the Hallenstadion Arena, the second biggest arena in Switzerland, and has the capacity to accomodate up to 13,000 spectators.

Switzerland’s Eurovision Journey

Switzerland both hosted and debuted in the inaugural Eurovision Song Contest in 1956. Their first participation was successful, as they won with Lys Assia’s “Refrain”. Since then, they have participated on 63 occasions, making the Grand Final 52 times.

Switzerland’s most recent participation saw them being represented by Nemo with their song “The Code”. Performing in the second semi-final, they qualified for the Grand Final for a fifth consecutive participation. At the end of voting in the final, it was revealed Switzerland had won the Contest. Nemo scored 365 points with the national juries, as well as 226 points with the televote. The overall winning score for “The Code” was 591 points. This win marks Switzerland’s third win in the contest following on from Lys Assia in 1956 and Celine Dion in 1988.
