We have a withdrawal in this year’s Junior Eurovision Song Contest, as it has been revealed that the United Kingdom will not be participating in this year’s competition in Madrid.
Difficult decisions made
When asked about the UK’s status in the competition, the BBC told That Eurovision Site:
We sometimes have to make difficult decisions and the BBC will not participate in the Junior Eurovision Song Contest this year. We would like to thank the artists and creative teams who represented the UK for the last two years.
At the time of writing, the BBC is yet to reveal the reason of its withdrawal from the competition.
United Kingdom’s Junior Eurovision Journey
The United Kingdom was one of the first countries to take part in the first edition of the Junior Eurovision Song Contest in 2003. Represented by Tom Morley and his song “My Song for the World”, the UK finished in 3rd place in Copenhagen. At the close of voting, Morley earned 118 points, only behind Spain and Croatia. The UK would compete a further two times, with their most successful attempt coming in 2004. In Lillehammer, Cory Spedding finished in second place with her song “The Best is Yet to Come”.
In 2022 the country returned to the Junior Eurovision Song Contest after a 17 year absence. the United Kingdom was represented by Freya Skye with her song “Lose My Head”. In 2023 the United Kingdom were represented by STAND UNIQU3, with their song “Back To Life”. STAND UNIQU3 scored 160 points, placing them 4th. The girls recieved 102 points from the professional juries, and 58 from the online voting.
