Nu Kör Vi, for the past few weeks, entries have been submitted in contention for Melodifestivalen 2025. Now that the submission period has finished, SVT has announced that they have received 2,794 entries for the upcoming edition of the competition.

Increase in submissions from last year

The number of submissions for Melodifestivalen 2025 saw an increase of 170 entries submitted compared to this year’s edition, where 2,624 entries were submitted. The producer for Melodifestivalen Karin Gunnarson commented on the number of submissions they received this year and how they cannot wait to start picking the competing entries.

Closing the submission is the starting shot for working on the songs that will compete in the Melodifestivalen 2025. Just like last year, there are 30 entries that make up the victory, the songbird and becoming Sweden’s representative in the Eurovision Song Contest in Switzerland

Now I look forward to starting the next phase of the selection process and it will be an intense and fun autumn. The goal is of course to grab another Eurovision victory and make a Meloifestivalen that delivers both hits and great entertainment and engages the whole Swedish people

Now that the submissions have closed, the competing artists competing in next year’s competition will be revealed later this autumn.

Sweden’s Eurovision Journey

In 1958, Sweden made their debut in the Eurovision Song Contest, with Alice Babs representing them with the song “Lilla stjärna” which placed fourth. Since their debut, the Scandinavian nation has managed to win seven times (1974, 1984, 1991, 1999, 2012, 2015 and 2023).

In 2024, Sweden were represented on home soil by Marcus and Martinus. As the host entry, their song “Unforgettable” did not need to compete in the semi-finals. At the close of voting in the grand final, they had received 174 points. 125 points were received by the juries, while the twins received 49 points by televoters.
