Earlier today, after much speculation, Sweden’s SVT released the full list of artists that will participate at next year’s Melodifestivalen; Sweden’s longstanding Eurovision selection, that will chose its entry for Basel. We were on the ground in Stockholm, and Tim had a chance to speak to some of this year’s acts; including Meira Omar, who will sing Hush Hush.

Check out our interview with Meira here:

Meira Omar will sing Hush Hush at the first semi final in Luleå on the first of February.

Who is Meira Omar?

Meira’s career began in the world of Bollywood where she worked for five years as a dancer. She shot to fame earlier in the year for participating in the Swedish version of Love Is Blind, and in doing so has become an internet personality and influencer.

Sweden’s Eurovision journey

In 1958, Sweden made their debut in the Eurovision Song Contest, with Alice Babs representing them with the song “Lilla stjärna” which placed fourth. Since their debut, the Scandinavian nation has managed to win seven times (1974, 1984, 1991, 1999, 2012, 2015 and 2023).
In 2024, Sweden were represented on home soil by Marcus and Martinus. As the host entry, their song “Unforgettable” did not need to compete in the semi-finals. At the close of voting in the grand final, they had received 174 points. 125 points were received by the juries, while the twins received 49 points by televoters.
