Yesterday, after much speculation, Sweden’s SVT released the full list of artists that will participate at next year’s Melodifestivalen; Sweden’s longstanding Eurovision selection, that will chose its entry for Basel. We were on the ground in Stockholm, and Tim had a chance to speak to some of this year’s acts; including Andreas Lundstedt, who will sing Vicious.
Check out our interview with Andreas here:
Andreas Lundstedt will sing Vicious at the fourth semi final in Malmö on the 22th of February.
Who is Andreas Lundstedt?
Vicious will mark the 10th time Andreas Lundstedt will have participated at Melodifestivalen. His long career in the contest began back in 1996 where he got his position to date, coming second with Driver Dagg Faller Regn. He participated the following year, before coming back to the contest twice as part of the group Alcazar coming third both times. He alternated at times between solo and with Alcazar culminating with their third place result at the 2014 edition of the contest.
Despite never winning Melodifestivalen, Andreas has performed at Eurovision, when his group Alcazar appeared at the 2024 edition of the contest as an interval act.
Sweden’s Eurovision journey
In 1958, Sweden made their debut in the Eurovision Song Contest, with Alice Babs representing them with the song “Lilla stjärna” which placed fourth. Since their debut, the Scandinavian nation has managed to win seven times (1974, 1984, 1991, 1999, 2012, 2015 and 2023).
In 2024, Sweden were represented on home soil by Marcus and Martinus. As the host entry, their song “Unforgettable” did not need to compete in the semi-finals. At the close of voting in the grand final, they had received 174 points. 125 points were received by the juries, while the twins received 49 points by televoters.
