About “En dag när du blir stor”
It’s no surprise that ‘En Dag När Du Blir Stor’ (‘One Day When You Grow Up’) was released in 2021, in the same year as Benjamin’s retro-styled album, ‘En Gång i Tiden’ (‘Once Upon a Time’). In the song, Benji sings to those who might be having a hard time at Christmas, especially to children. The lyrics of the song show them an image of the a better future Christmas that they will have when they grow up. It reflects on the traditional family Christmas that he experienced as a child, with a nostalgic, wistful tone. The song was written by Benji together with Aron Bergerwall, Markus Sepehrmanesh, Mattias Bylund and Nils-Petter Ankarblom.
What do we think?
A very classic track from Benji that really utilises that smooth tone of his voice that we saw showcased on the album, with that beautiful string orchestration that we know and love from that era. it’s hard to not get lost in his voice here, and while it’s a Christmas track, it doesn’t come with the traditional sleigh bells and cringe that some tracks do. A gentle comfort in the season, both lyrically and musically.
(Also, if Daniel doesn’t maim me for including it, the Italian version as performed with the Royal Stockholm Philharmonic Orchestra that year is a lovely bonus, with even MORE rousing orchestration!)
Benjamin Ingrosso’s Eurovision Journey
Benjamin Ingrosso is best known to Eurovision fans as the Swedish Eurovision entry in 2018. His song ‘Dance You Off’ came 7th in the contest that year. Since then, he has risen to the ranks of one of Sweden’s biggest stars, with numerous number 1 singles and albums. He returned to the Eurovision stage in 2024, performing a medley of his songs ‘Look who’s laughing now’, ‘Honey Boy’ and ‘Kite’ to rapturous acclaim.
You can find out more of Benjamin’s history both inside and outside Eurovision in our feature ‘Beyond Eurovision: Benjamin Ingrosso’ from earlier this year.
