Ahead of his participation in Poland’s national final for Eurovision 2025, we interviewed Dominik Dudek. He participated two years ago with his song “Be Good” and returns this year with “Hold the Light”.
Tell us about yourself! What made you decide to become a singer, and what has your career been like so far?
Hello! This is Dominik Dudek! I am a singer, songwriter, and multi-instrumentalist, and my journey with music began 12 years ago in high school when I first stepped onto the stage to sing Coldplay – The Scientist. That moment sparked a passion that has shaped my career. Determined to pursue my dream, I formed a band and I began touring. Along the way, I earned a degree in jazz saxophone from a music academy, but I soon realized that my true calling was elsewhere. Inspired by artists like Coldplay, Oasis, Mumford & Sons, and Imagine Dragons, I knew I wanted to create music that resonated on more personal level.
Like many artists, I faced challenges in the music industry. So after numerous setbacks, it was my fiancée who took faith in me, signing me into The Voice of Poland. That moment changed everything. I won the competition, and with it, my career began. Since then, I have dedicated myself to creating music that speaks to people, just as my inspirations once did for me.
What made you decide to enter the Polish national selection this year?
I think Eurovision opens up a lot of great opportunities for artists. Just like The Voice helped me develop in Poland, Eurovision can help me to develop outside of Poland. That was actually my first thought after winning The Voice. I tried in 2023 and unfortunately it didn’t work out, so now I decided to try again.
How has your life changed since participating in the national selection in 2023?
It was a big change! My song Be Good was quite successful in Poland and it gave me a big push in my career. In the last two years I played a lot of concerts, released a lot of singles and simply became more experienced musician. I also think that these two years of hard work prepared me for Eurovision.
What was your favourite thing about competing in Tu bije serce Europy!?
Definitely an opportunity to connect with industry professionals, media, and other musicians. It’s a time of learning and growth. More than just a competition, the preselections became a true celebration of music.
What is your song “Hold the Light” about?
This is my story. Before winning The Voice, I faced numerous setbacks that left me questioning my path as a musician. At my lowest point, I felt uncertain about my future, and almost giving up on my dreams. But then I met someone who changed everything. Someone who pulled me out of my darkest moments and became my greatest inspiration. She is my light. That’s why I repeat “hold the light” so many times in the song. It’s a call for her to keep that light shining for me. The light refers to powerful symbol. For me, it represents a person, but for others, it might be faith, passion, or anything that gives them strength to keep going.
What was the songwriting process like for your song?
I wrote this song with Teya and Tom Oehler in Switzerland. In November 2024, I approached my label, because I wanted to go somewhere that would inspire me to create something special. Just two weeks later, I found myself in Switzerland, preparing for my first international songwriting camp. I’ll admit, I was nervous at first, but that fear disappeared as I met my team. Before we even began writing, Teya asked me few questions: What’s your story? What do you want from life? Who are you, really? In that moment, I opened up and it felt more like a therapy session than a songwriting process. The emotions poured out naturally, and within just 10 hours, the song was finished. It was raw, honest, and personal. A true reflection of that moment.
Can you give us a hint as to what we can expect from the live performance?
I’m an artist who likes to be honest with myself and I’m not comfortable with fireworks, stunts etc. of course we want to do a show, but in our own way. On stage I will definitely have piano from the video… you have to watch the finale to find out!
Have you listened to the other competing entries? Do you have a favourite?
Yes, I’ve listened to all the entries, and I can say that there isn’t a single bad song. Each song is unique in its own way. As we know, this year’s winner will be decided by the public vote, which means anything is possible and I find it exciting! I’m sure that every artist will give their all to make this concert an unforgettable experience. Personally, I don’t have any favorites. My focus is on delivering the best performance I can.
Do you have a favourite Eurovision song or memory?
I might shock you a bit, but my favorite Eurovision song is Rosa Linn-Snap. Probably because it’s a bit my style, I have songs in a similar style.
And finally, what would you like to say to anyone discovering your music for the first time through this year’s national selection?
Every song I’ve written is personal and “Hold the Light” is no exception. My music is a reflection of my own experiences, and I sing from the heart. I already have dozens of finished songs waiting to be released, each telling a story that I hope will inspire others. If I have the opportunity to represent my country at Eurovision, you can be sure that this is just the beginning, I’m ready to share much more. I just chase my dreams and those dreams are becoming reality. I hope my journey shows that anything is possible.
