Who is our winner of Eesti Laul 2025?

We ranked the songs taking part in the final, using a 1-16 ranking. 1 being our favourite, 16 being our least favourite song. We then calculated the average of all our rankings.

3rd. Janek – “Frozen” (6.40):

2nd. An-Marlen – “Külm” (4.60):

1st. Minimal Wind – “Armageddon” (4.40):

What did some of our team members have to say about their favourite songs from Eesti Laul 2025?

Angus (Külm): Külm is a sleek, modern, dare I even say elegant piece of electronic pop. Her warm vocals contrasting with the cold beats and the richness the song finds in a fairly minimal approach beautifully complement the lyricism on display. There is something surprisingly timeless about this entire song too, which just adds to it all.

Rory (Minimal Wind): Minimal Wind’s emotional offering is a huge standout in the otherwise-middling Eesti Laul this year. The lush strings combined with the band’s soft playing of the instrumental is absolutely delightful to listen to despite the heartbreaking narrative of the lyrics. The music video as well has a host of interesting ideas that the band can really be incorporated into the performance – which, I hope they do! Estonia on a great qualification streak at the minute and this would be a fantastic song to carry that on!

Kittens (Janek): Frozen has that combination of dark beats and catchy chorus that is just inherently great under all circumstances. While it’s a little on the low key side to truly excel, I think with a slick staging on stage there might be a winning formula if done right. Feels like the kinda thing I’ll be randomly singing in the shower in a year’s time and going… Wait, what is that?

What is Eesti Laul?

For over a decade now Eesti Laul has showcased Estonian talent in a multi-stage format to select Estonia’s Eurovision entrant. Traditionally featuring two semi finals and a final, in recent years the show has been adapted year on year to feature (then subsequently remove) quarter finals, and wild card rounds. The winner is typically decided by a hybrid voting of juries and televotes, with superfinal of usually three acts vying for the chance to represent Estonia.

Estonia’s Eurovision Journey

Estonia has appeared at almost every Eurovision since their debut in 1994. They have won the contest once with Tanel Padar, Dave Benton and 2XL in 2001, singing Everybody. Other notable Estonian entrants include 3rd placer Sahlene with Runaway in 2002 and Ines with Once In A Lifetime in 2000, who placed 4th. More recently, their highest-placing entries have been Urban Symphony with Rändajad in 2009 and Ott Lepland with Kuula in 2012, both of which finished in 6th place.

In 2024, Estonia elected to send 5MIINUST and Puuluup through Eesti Laul to the Contest with “(Nendest) narkootikumidest ei tea me (küll) midagi”. They successfully qualified for the final and finshed in 20th place with 37 points. The group finished with 4 points from the juries, and an additional 33 points from the televote.
