What did some of our team members have to say about their favourite songs from MGP 2025?
Daniel (Ladybug): I’ve made it no secret that I’m a little disappointed by MGP this year after really enjoying the last three years. but “Hot as Hell in paradise” is by my money the strongest of the bunch. Ladybug’s strong personal artistic identity comes across really well in the song, and Hot as Hell in Paradise is for all purposes a very well made dark pop track that could make for a really good stage show
Shiloh (Tone Damli): “Last Song” might not be the most stage-friendly song out of the bunch, but it’s a solid, catchy nu-disco number with a lot of polish and lyrics I want to keep singing along to! Certainly a song that will stick in people’s heads. I’m not a going-out person, but this song almost makes me want to.
Kittens (Nataleen): This feels to me like the song that has the most punch to it from the selection. This will need some rich lighting and fantastical staging to set it off, but done right it will add that drama in spades and I can see it doing really well. While it might sound similar to previous songs – if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it, and if they can keep doing what they’re doing well, then why not.
What is MGP?
Melodi Grand Prix is the Norwegian method of selection for Eurovision. This national final selection method is over 60 years old. The only year where Melodi Grand Prix has not taken place was 2002, when Norway were relegated from the Eurovision Song Contest. Melodi Grand Prix had undertaken a few different formats. The changes in format have mainly taken place in the last few years, since 2020.
Norway’s Eurovision Journey
The Scandinavian nation made its debut in the Eurovision Song Contest in 1960, with Nora Brockstedt and the song “Voi Voi”, which placed 4th. Since their debut, they have participated 62 times, and made the Grand Final 59 of these. In addition, Norway has won the competition three times – in 1985, 1995, and 2009.
Norway’s latest Eurovision participation saw them being represented by Gåte with the song “Ulveham”. After qualifying for the final, Norway placed 25th and last place in the Grand Final, receiving 16 points, 12 of which from the jury and 4 from televoters.
