Preparations are now in full swing in Azerbaijan as the Eurovision Song Contest draws ever closer. Now, the band has revealed the creative team behind their performance for Basel.
Creative team with A-list experience
Mamagama’s creative team was revealed through Azerbaijani Eurovision fan-site 12xal. It was revealed that Ace Bowerman and Jorge Antonio will be in charge of the band’s Eurovision performance. Bowerman will be in charge of the song’s staging, while Antonio will handle choreography.
As a creative team, Bowerman and Antonio have an extensive history in creating impactful performances. Bowerman has worked with the likes of Rina Sawayama, Dua Lipa and Blackpink. Meanwhile, Antonio has collaborated with superstar Sabrina Carpenter.
It comes as the band revealed that “Run With U” was one of five submissions given to broadcaster Ictimai. In an interview with 12xal, the trio said they sent songs in a variety of genres to the station. There, a committee internally selected “Run With U” as the song to represent Azerbaijan. Mamagama also added they want to bring “maximum energy” to the Contest, but kept quiet on how their performance was shaping up.
Azerbaijan’s Eurovision journey
Azerbaijan is a powerhouse in Eurovision, first debuting in 2008 with the song “Day After Day” by Elnur & Samir, finishing 8th. The country has since gone on to achieve five top-5 performances, including one win in 2011. Azerbaijan has an impressive qualification record, only failing to make the final in 2018, 2023, and 2024.
Azerbaijan internally selected Fahree and Ilkin Dolatov to represent them in 2024 with the song “Özünlə apar”; they scored eleven points in the first semifinal, placing fourteenth and missing out on the Grand Final for a second year in a row.
