As the songs competing for this year’s competition in Basel continue to be selected, the team at That Eurovision Site will react to the entries that will be participating at Eurovision 2025. The next entry we will react to is Australia, which will be competing in this year’s competition with “Milkshake Man” by Go-Jo.

Our thoughts on “Milkshake Man”

In this series, we will provide our opinions via two methods. One of our team members will be reacting on video, which you can see below, whilst up to three members will give their written opinion on the entry. Molly will be on the main seat and will be showing her reaction to “Milkshake Man”

What did the other team members think of “Milkshake Man”?

Euan: Now while this is not my cup of tea in any way at all (and is even in my bottom five), I do have to concede that Go-Jo is a great performer. With the ‘fun’ songs this year predominantly being much higher octane, I feel there’s definitely a path for this to not only comfortably qualify but even end up with a solid left hand result. While we’ve obviously not heard this live, if we’re looking at past live performances Go-Jo is able to capture a live audience well, and providing SBS don’t go down the same pitfalls as last year there’s great potential for this to pop on the Basel stage.

Rory: I really do enjoy this performance from Go-Jo, and it offers a cheeky humour that we just don’t get from Australia. So many great comic artists like Tom Cardy are Aussie and it’s nice to see that being shown on a Eurovision stage. I understand it is a bit of an acquired taste, and I’ve seen so much pearl-clutching from Eurovision fans about this. Overall, however, it’s just a really fun song and he is clearly a charismatic performer. I cannot wait to prove people wrong in Basel!

Tim: I have to be honest, I was a bit surprised that Australia selected “Milkshake Man” (in a more surprised way than disappointed), just because it is the same country that gave us “Sound of Silence” and “Promise”, but I can see why they have gone down this route, it is a fun entry, and I am hoping that Go-Jo gives us a great performance when we get to Basel.

Australia’s Eurovision Journey

The most recent country to debut into the Eurovision Song Contest, Australia debuted in 2015. Guy Sebastian represented the land down under with his entry “Tonight Again” in Vienna, where they placed 5th. Since their debut, they have participated every single year of the competition.

Australia internally selected Electric Fields to represent them in 2024 with the song “One Milkali (One Blood)”. The band ultimately failed to reach the Grand Final, placing eleventh in the first semifinal with 41 televote points.
