As the songs competing for this year’s competition in Basel continue to be selected, the team at That Eurovision Site will react to the entries that will be participating at Eurovision 2025. The next entry we will react to is the Netherlands, which will be competing in this year’s competition with “C’est La Vie” by Claude.

Our thoughts on “C’est La Vie”

In this series, we will provide our opinions via two methods. One of our team members will be reacting on video, which you can see below, whilst up to three members will give their written opinion on the entry. Kittens will be on the main seat and will be showing her reaction to “C’est La Vie”

What did the other team members think of “C’est La Vie”?

Euan: I will admit this was one of the songs I was most excited for hearing, and Claude definitely delivered. The solid beat and hook is something to commend, but what really stands out for me in the poignant last 30 seconds of the song. It’s something that with the full set up of the Basel staging could pull on some strong heartstrings and connect so well. In a year of really great ballads, this stands out.

Tim: I am absolutely loving what the Netherlands have brought to the table, I think that Claude is a performer that will deliver and bring the party to the stage in Basel. I am curious to see how they will stage this in Basel, because the music video looks promising and I hope they are able to bring elements of it to the stage.

Molly: This song is one of my favourites out of the batch of ballads this year not only because the vocals are so beautiful but also because the way the song emotionally hits but also weaves to a more pop-like section gives it a wider appeal. The song opens itself up to some amazing staging over in Basel. With the amount of ballads this one will stand out and will probably do very well amongst the jury.

The Netherlands’ Eurovision Journey

The Netherlands are one of the founding countries of the ESC, having performed the very first song ever on the Eurovision stage back in 1956. While the result of “De Vogels van Holland” is unknown, the Netherlands have garnered 5 wins, with their most recent in 2019. However the Netherlands are also known to have had the longest ever non qualification streak in the semi-final era – they missed out on the final a whopping 8 times between 2005 and 2012.

Joost Klein represented the Netherlands in 2024 with the song “Europapa”. While he was ultimately disqualified, he would have made it to the final, placing second in his semifinal with 182 points.
