As the songs competing for this year’s competition in Basel continue to be selected, the team at That Eurovision Site will react to the entries that will be participating at Eurovision 2025. The next entry we will react to is Italy, which will be competing in this year’s competition with “Volevo Essere Un Duro” by Lucio Corsi.

Our thoughts on “Volevo Essere Un Duro”

In this series, we will provide our opinions via two methods. One of our team members will be reacting on video, which you can see below, whilst up to three members will give their written opinion on the entry. Shiloh will be on the main seat and will be showing his reaction to “Volevo Essere Un Duro”

What did the other team members think of “Volevo Essere Un Duro”?

Daniel: It took me a while to get here, but I can finally say that I actually really like this. Lucio is a really great performer, he has a really distinctive and memorable style, and the lyrics of the song are some of my favourites this Eurovision cycle. There’s not really anything else like this in Eurovision this year and it’s a real breath of fresh air. I just know I’d be going feral for something like this if it came out of Festival da Canção.

Euan: I will admit this is my favourite this year, and I had listened to this several dozen times before the final of Sanremo. It clicked with me so well because there’s a great feeling of authenticity, and I feel this level of authenticity is lacking so much this year. Because of that Lucio could really stand out this year. There’s a solid hook here that can stay with the viewers long after it’s been heard; even while listening to multiple songs.

Tim: This was not on my radar when I started covering Sanremo this year, but it’s one of those entries where if you just want something that has no gimmicks, you just want to feel the emotions, then this is the song for you. Italy always seems to understand the assignment, and this year’s entry is no different.

Italy’s Eurovision Journey

Italy has participated in the Eurovision Song Contest since the very beginning and have always been considered a powerhouse in the contest. The country has won the contest on three occasions in 1964, 1990 and 2021. Italy withdrew after 1997, returning again in 2011 with Raphael Gualazzi who sang ‘Madness Of Love’. Raphael placed second in the 2011 Eurovision Song Contest after scoring 189 points.

Italy’s most recent entry in 2024 was “La Noia” by Angelina Mango. At the close of voting, Italy scored a total of 268 points in the Eurovision 2024 Grand Final, placing 7th. Of these, 164 points came from the juries, whilst the remaining 104 points came from the televote.
