As the songs competing for this year’s competition in Basel continue to be selected, the team at That Eurovision Site will react to the entries that will be participating at Eurovision 2025. The next entry we will react to is Azerbaijan, which will be competing in this year’s competition with “Run With U” by Mamagama.
Our thoughts on “Run With U”
In this series, we will provide our opinions via two methods. One of our team members will be reacting on video, which you can see below, whilst up to three members will give their written opinion on the entry. Tim will be on the main seat and will be showing his reaction to “Run With U”
What did the other team members think of “Run With U”?
Shiloh: The bassline in this is so funky, the lead singer has such a unique voice, and “Run With U” is totally unlike anything else at this year’s Eurovision. Definitely my favourite of Azerbaijan’s entries in this new era of sending songs by their own songwriters. As always with songs that are a little more “alt”, I do wonder how they plan to stage this, but we know that they’re not afraid to take big swings with staging and I really hope that this year it pays off.
Molly: This song has a retro vibe to it that I enjoyed a lot along with having a vibe of the country as well. I am curious to see how the sci-fi elements of the song are going to translate over to the staging. There are so many elements of the music video that could work well as ideas for the staging. The vocals on the studio version are very good and the song itself is not going to have to worry about competition within its genre which could help it well.
Angus: This song is surprisingly fun! I really appreciate that Azerbaijan is continuing with sending songs by their own songwriters, and for the third time in a row we get something different. ‘Run With U’ isn’t groundbreaking, but it is an entertaining slice of indie/alt pop-rock that feels both distinctly modern and global, while still offering a bit of a unique perspective that makes it feel, well, Azerbaijani in this case. The chorus is also shockingly catchy, which can be good or bad because the singer’s voice is perhaps a bit of an acquired taste, but overall a pretty neat entry.

Azerbaijan’s Eurovision Journey
Azerbaijan is a powerhouse in Eurovision, first debuting in 2008 with the song “Day After Day” by Elnur & Samir, finishing 8th. The country has since gone on to achieve five top-5 performances, including one win in 2011. Azerbaijan has an impressive qualification record, only failing to make the final in 2018, 2023, and 2024.
Azerbaijan internally selected Fahree and Ilkin Dolatov to represent them in 2024 with the song “Özünlə apar”; they scored eleven points in the first semifinal, placing fourteenth and missing out on the Grand Final for a second year in a row.
