🇫🇮 That Eurovision Preview: Who is Erika Vikman?

Eurovision in Basel is just less than a month away. In the lead-up to the start of rehearsals, we will get to know a bit more about this year’s artists, their discography, and their Eurovision 2025 journey so far. The final artist in this year’s preview is Finland’s Erika Vikman.

Erika Vikman’s Eurovision Journey So Far

Finland once again opted for its long-running selection ‘UMK‘ to select its representative for Basel, with UMK returnee Erika Vikman winning the right to represent Finland in Basel after receiving the most votes from the International Juries and Public vote combined. In Eurovision 2025, Erika Vikman will be closing the second semi-final on May 15.

Erika’s song for Eurovision 2025 – “ICH KOMME” – was written by Christel and Jori Roosberg.

Who is Erika Vikman?

Erika Vikman is a 32-year-old singer from Tampere in southwestern Finland. Her first brush with the public eye came in 2013, when she competed in the Finnish singing show Idols. Growing up in a household dedicated to tango, Erika first cut her teeth in the music business by becoming a tango singer – going on to win the Tangomarkkinat in 2018. During this time, she also experimented in jazz and pop. In 2020, Vikman attempted to represent Finland at Eurovision with “Cicciolina”, but ultimately finished in second place behind Aksel.

Finland’s Eurovision Journey

Finland debuted in the 1961 Eurovision Song Contest, finishing 10th with Laila Kunnunen’s “Valoa ikkunassa.” Since then they have competed 56 times, and appeared in the final 48 times. Finland has finished in the top 10 an impressive 14 times. They have won the contest once in 2006, with Lordi’s performance of “Hard Rock Hallelujah” getting 292 points.

Finland’s most recent entry was “No Rules” by Windows95man. They came in 7th place in the semi-final in Malmö, thus qualifying for the final. At the close of voting, he gained a total of 38 points, earning them 19th place. Windows95man received 31 points from the televote, and an extra 7 points from the juries.
