Cyprus’ national broadcaster CyBC confirmed their participation in the contest on their official Instagram account earlier today.

Two stage selection

Whilst announcing their participation, CyBC also revealed the application process for those seeking to take part. The selection process will consist of two selections. The first stage will select the artist, whilst the other will select the song.

Children aged 9 to 14 can submit their application before the 8th of September. They must also be Cypriot citizens and submit a cover version of a song of their choice.

A jury consisting of 3 adults and 2 children will later award points to the five artists selected to take part in live auditions based on the applicant’s stage presence, vocal ability, and ability to perform a song. The artist with the most points will represent Cyprus in Tbilisi. A separate song selection will then take place to choose the entry that the artist will represent the island nation with on the 13th of December.

Cyprus’ Junior Eurovision history

Cyprus first took part in the Junior Eurovision Song Contest in its inaugural year of 2003. Theodora Rafti represented Cyprus at the first edition of the Contest, singing “Mia Efhi”, finishing in 14th place. The country’s best position came in both 2004 and 2006, when they finished in 8th place. Cyprus would go on to host the 2008 edition of the Contest in Limassol.

Cyprus returned to Junior Eurovision in 2024, where Maria Pissarides represented them in Madrid. Her song “Crystal Waters” received ten points from the juries and 50 from the televote.
