🇦🇺 Australia won’t compete in Eurovision Asia 2026

Australian broadcaster SBS has confirmed it will not take part in the first-ever Eurovision Song Contest Asia this November.

SBS confirms non-participation

In a statement to Aussievision, Australian broadcaster SBS clarified that it will not be joining the new contest in 2026.

“SBS has long recognised the strong appetite for Eurovision and its unique ability to connect audiences through music and shared cultural moments. While SBS is not competing in this newly announced Eurovision Asia initiative, we’re pleased to see continued interest in celebrating these kinds of connections across the region and will be watching with interest as it develops”

Despite stepping back from participation, SBS acknowledged Eurovision’s role in bringing audiences together through music and cultural exchange.

Eurovision Asia is finally planned

Eurovision Song Contest Asia has been in development for several years, but this marks the first official confirmation of a launch timeline and host city.

With more countries expected to be announced and national selections likely to begin in the coming months, the 2026 contest could represent a major milestone in the global expansion of the Eurovision brand.
