Today, the rehearsals for Eurovision 2026 continue in Vienna. Countries rehearsing on Day 1 include Moldova, Sweden, Croatia, Greece, Portugal, Georgia, and Finland. The second to rehearse today is Sweden’s Felicia. Rehearsal’s pictures will be out in approximately 24 hours.
What did we learn about Akylas’ staging?
Greece’s performance throws viewers straight into a stylised, digital-inspired world, one that plays with perspective, visuals and character in a way that feels closer to a virtual environment than a traditional Eurovision act.
Akylas doesn’t just perform the song, he steps into a role. The staging introduces a series of shifting identities and illusions, building a playful, almost surreal atmosphere where the boundaries between performer and character start to blur.
The styling leans into an orange-and-black colour palette, giving off strong “tiger” energy, with standout costume details that fully embrace the theatrical side of Eurovision. It’s exaggerated, deliberate, and clearly designed to be memorable.
Midway through, there’s a shift. The energy drops, the character fades, and Akylas steps out of the spectacle. What follows is a more personal moment, directed toward his mother, a pause that cuts through the visual chaos and brings something unexpectedly sincere into the performance.
Who is Akylas
Akylas Mytilinaios is a 27-year-old singer-songwriter born in the northern town of Serres. A keen musician, Akylas studied music from a young age, going to music school and taking theatre classes. He also dabbled in the world of food and even sang on cruise ships before his career in singing took off on TikTok in 2021. He also took part in The Voice of Greece in 2022, where he ultimately placed eighth.
Greece’s Eurovision Journey
In 1974, Greece made its debut to the Eurovision Song Contest with “Krasi, thalassa ke t’agori mou” which placed 11th. Since then they have participated on 44 occasions (41 of which made the Grand Final), and have won once, in 2005.
Greece’s most recent Eurovision participation saw them being represented by Klavdia with the song “Asteromáta”. Following her performance, Greece qualified for the Grand Final, finishing in 6th place. She earned a total of 231 points, of which 105 were from the national juries and 126 were from the televoters.
