🇧🇬 Bulgarian government establishes committee to host Eurovision 2027

DARA winning moment

Bulgaria is leaning heavily into its plans to host the Eurovision Song Contest for the first time. Now, the government has stepped in to establish an organising committee for next year’s show

Committee’s action plan in motion

According to broadcaster BNT, the organising committee is made up of several senior politicians within the newly-elected government. The full line-up of the committee is:

  • Deputy Prime Minister Ivo Hristov (Chairman)
  • Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Finance Galab Donev
  • Deputy Prime Minister responsible for the management of European funds Atanas Pekanov
  • Minister of Foreign Affairs Velislava Petrova
  • Minister of Internal Affairs Ivan Demerdzhiev
  • Minister of Health Katya Ivkova
  • Minister of Culture Evtim Miloshev
  • Minister of Youth and Sports Encho Keryazov
  • Minister of Tourism Ilin Dimitrov
  • Director-General of BNT, Milena Milotinova

The committee now has until June 30th to come up with an action plan on how they will handle the organisation of the Contest next May. The plan will then be considered by the Bulgarian government, before being approved – which will serve as the blueprint for next year’s show.

Meanwhile, several cities across Bulgaria have applied to host the competition, despite BNT saying their first preference was the capital Sofia. Other cities, including Burgas and Plovdiv have applied, and a decision will be made in due course.

The story of Eurovision 2027 so far

The journey to the 2027 Eurovision Song Contest kicked off immediately following Dara’s win in Vienna, when Bulgaria’s BNT accepted the rights to host the 71st edition of the contest. Currently, very little is known about the plans for next year’s Contest, but several cities in Bulgaria have applied to host the show, including Sofia, Burgas and Plovdiv.

As for the organisation of the competition, the Bulgarian government stepped in to create an organising committee, which was revealed at the end of May 2026, with further details about next year’s competition to be revealed in due course.
