🇸🇪 Loreen – “Set Me Free (lau.ra Remix)”
Two time Eurovision winner Loreen released her latest album “WILDFIRE” back in March. This week, the lau.ra remix of one of the tracks on the album, “Set Me Free”, has been released. This remix is a big club, bounce version of Loreen’s track from the English based musician and producer Laura Bettinson. The original version of the track was written by Loreen, Thomas G:Son, Jimmy Jansson and Poppy Baskcomb, and the Swedish pop mixes perfectly with the London club scene in this remix.
🇦🇺 Dami Im – “Fields of Gold (Live at Bird’s Basement)”
Dami Im became an instant fan favourite after her performance of “Sound of Silence” at the Contest in Stockholm, in 2016. The Korean-Australian singer placed second in the Grand Final, and has continued to find success in her music career ever since. The latest release from Dami sees her cover Sting’s 1993 emotional smash hit “Fields of Gold”. The track was recorded in front of a live audience at the Bird’s Basement Jazz Club in Melbourne. Dami Im headlined two dates at the iconic jazz venue on the 26th and 27th of June of this year. It’s a beautiful cover of an already iconic, well-loved ballad, seeing Dami sing and play piano. Somehow, I think Dami’s version resonates more with me than the original.
🇷🇴 Andrei Ursu (Wrs) – “La Bine, La Rău”
Andrei Ursu is probably most remembered by eurofans for his latin inspired dance hit “Llámame” from the Contest in Turin, 2022. Once known as Wrs, Andrei Ursu made a return to the Eurovision universe this year in Romania’s Selecția Naționalǎ national final with his song “All The Way”. Alexandra Cǎpitǎnescu would eventually win the selection, with Andrei missing out on representing Romania in the Contest for a second time. However, the singer is back with a beautiful love song. “La Bine, La Rău” (For better or worse) is a commonly used romantic Romanian phrase, and the accompanying video for this track leans into the wedding romance. Andrei sounds beautiful on this track, written by himself.
🇫🇮 Blind Channel – “Diana” & “No Echoes in a Swan Song”
Blind Channel return! The Finnish Nu metal band announced a hiatus from music in 2024, with singer Joel Hokka leaving the band shortly after. This week, Blind Channel have announced their return to the Finnish rock scene, with new album “Painstream” due at the end of October. The band, now fronted by lead vocalist Niko Moilannen without Hokka (who now performs with his own band HOKKA), have dropped two tracks ahead of this album. “Diana” is a big metal song, with enough guitars, drums and metal screams to fill a Nordic arena. “No Encores in a Swan Song” is a more soft rock / nu metal sound in parts, with a melodic chorus and exciting metal breakdown towards the end. This feels current, exciting and huge. What a way to return to music!
🇸🇪 Carola – “Still Believe In God”
Eurovision 1991 winner, and three time Swedish Eurovision entrant (1983, 1991, 2006) Carola is back with a big Christian pop rock release. The song features background vocals from a church choir, and from singers Anelli Törnkvist and Jesper Lundh. The 59 year old singer still has an incredible vocal talent.
🇺🇦 Tina Karol – “Хороший”
Tina Karol is nothing short of a superstar in Ukraine. Having represented the country at Eurovision in 2006 with the song “Show Me Your Love”, and returning as one of the Ukrainian interval acts in the 2023 Grand Final, Karol has a long connection with both Eurovision and Ukraine’s Vidbir. The singer has this week released her latest single, “Хороший”. The song is a big band, jazzy-pop ballad. Tina’s voice is every bit as seductive and impressive as her 2006 performance, and this is an exciting release from the Ukrainian performer and TV personality.
🇹🇷 maNga – “Uyumsoft Yazılımda Hızlı Çözüm!”
Eurovision 2010 second-places maNga are back with a big rock sound, partnering with a software company… No. For real. The alternative rock / nu metal band from Türkiye are the sound of the new Uyumsoft commercial, with “Uyumsoft Yazılımda Hızlı Çözüm!” (Quick fix with Uyumsoft). The first piece of new music from the band so far this year sees them promote the speed and effectiveness of a software transformation company. This is hardly as serious a release as most of the other featured tracks on this week’s round-up, but is fun nonetheless.
🇦🇹 ZOË – “Baby, bye bye”
Zoe Straub, known to Eurovision fans as Austria 2016’s “Loin d’ici” singer ZOË, has new music. The singer has collaborated with a number of musicians on the EPOS – Die Rocker project. ZOË has written the music for the rock opera musical, telling the story of the medieval legend Nibelungenlied, shown through the eyes of women instead of the usual heroes of the story. The rock opera premiered in Steyr, Austria earlier in the month, and is due to run throughout August in the country.
🇧🇬 Miro – “Твоето секси аз”
Bulgaria’s 2010 Eurovision semifinalist is back with a new summer banger. The “Angel is ti” singer has released new song “Твоето секси аз”. It’s a sexy, Bulgarian language dance-pop track with a big, uptempo beat. The Slavic/Balkan sound is present throughout, with Miro delivering a great male pop vocal.
🇵🇱 Ochman – “Czego Ty Chcesz”
Ochman placed 12th in the Song Contest in Turin in 2022 with his song “River”. The Polish singer is back with a new track, “Czego Ty Chcesz”. The song is Ochman’s second collaboration with DJ / Production outfit Wszytsko Dobrze, following the release of “Zostaw mnie dla siebie” earlier in the year. It’s a rap/dance track, with a big baseline. This one is hard to resist.
🇪🇪 Stig Rästa – “Päev”
Stig Rästa has many connections to both Eurovision, and the Eesti Laul national final in Estonia. in 2015, Rästa represented Estonia in the Eurovision Song Contest alongside Elina Born, with the song “Goodbye to Yesterday”. The singer is also known as one of the founding members, and lyricists, of frequent Eesti Laul participants Traffic (Eesti Laul 2008, 2009, 2012, 2014 & 2020). The Estonian singer-songwriter has also appeared in the national selection in the country with the band Slobodan River (2003 & 2004) and with Outloudz (2011). He returned to the selection in 2018, with the track “Home”, and again in 2022 with “Interstellar”. In 2026, Stig appeared in Eesti Laul alongside Victor Crone (Eurovision 2019) as duo Stockholm Cowboys, with the song “Last Man Standing”, missing out on a place in the superfinal. He’s also received writing credits on a number of songs that have represented Estonia in Eurovision. Basically, if Estonia have a selection for Eurovision, Stig Rästa will be around somewhere, somehow. Away from music, Rästa is also a serving politician in the Estonian Riigikogu. The latest release from the ever busy man is new song “Päev” (Home). It’s a beautiful, more stripped-back ballad from Stig than some of his national final entries.
🇸🇪 Lena Philipsson – “Good Time Is Coming”
Lena Philipsson has participated in Sweden’s Melodifestivalen four times as an artist (1986, 1987, 1988 & 2004) and twice as a songwriter (1991, 1999). After winning the national final in 2004, Philipsson represented the country with “It Hurts” at the Contest in Instabul, where she placed joint 5th in the Grand Final. In 2024, Philipsson replaced the late Marie Fredriksson as lead vocalist of pop rock duo Roxette, performing across the world with Per Gessle. The 60 year old Schlager pop singer has an impressive back catalogue of music, and continues to make records to this day. The latest of which, “Good Time Is Coming”, is a feel-good, disco-pop track written by Lena herself.
🇺🇦 ZLATA OGNEVICH – “Лелека (Live Version)”
ZLATA OGNEVICH represent Ukraine in the 2013 Song Contest with song “Gravity”, placing third in Malmö. She later went on to host the 2013 Junior Eurovision Song Contest, alongside Timur Miroshnychenko. The singer and former politician has had an impressive career in Ukraine, with 7 full length albums and countless singles. Her latest release is a live version of her 2022 hit “Лелека”, recorded in front of a live audience. It’s a beautiful rendition of her song.
🇸🇲Flo Rida – “Vacation (Anywhere You Wanna Go)”
Remember the time Flo Rida was in Eurovision? How could anyone forget. The American rapper featured on Senhit’s “Adrenalina”, placing 22nd in the Grand Final in 2021. Flo Rida is huge, you don’t need explaining who he is. His latest release is a collaboration with fellow rapper Sage The Gemini, “Vacation (Anywhere You Wanna Go)”. The release is a rework of the 1980 hit written by Kathy Valentine, member of The Go-Go’s. The band The Go-Go’s made the song famous in 1982, appearing on the album of the same name. Flo Rida and Sage The Gemini’s version is intriguing to say the least, but I’m glad this song has found new life and a new audience.
🇦🇹 PAENDA & 🇫🇮 Darude – “Feel The Beat (Ilan Bluestone Remix)”
Finland’s Darude and Austria’s PÆNDA, both of whom competed in the 2019 edition of the Eurovision Song Contest in Tel Aviv, teamed up for a new single earlier in the year. “Feel The Beat (Ilan Bluestone Remix) has this week been released, and joins the 6 other official remixes of the track already in the world. Neither artist made it out of the semifinals in 2019, but together the sound is HUGE. A Darude club anthem for the ages. And this remix only furthers that.
🇷🇸 Sara Jo (Moje 3) – “Bingo”
Sara Jovanović represented Serbia in the Song Contest in Malmö in 2013, with the band Moje 3 and the song “Ljubav je svuda”. The trio just missed out on a spot in the Grand Final, placing 11th in Semifinal 1. Moje 3 also infamously received the Barbara Dex Award for the worst dressed act of 2013. Sara returned to the Serbian national selection show Pesma Za Evroviziju (PZE) as a solo artist in 2022, performing the track “Muškarčina” as Sara Jo. Going into the final of PZE 2022, Sara was the bookies favourite to take the win, but unfortunately, she missed out on the top spot, being beaten only by Eurovision legend Konstrakta. Since then, Sara has released a string of singles, as well as a full length album “Bez Kontrole”, in 2023. For her latest new release, Sara has teamed up with rising star in the Serbian music scene Rouzi on “Bingo”. Rouzi has become known for mixing Balkan rap and trap sounds with UK garage and grime genres. “Bingo” is no exception to this, blending Balkan rap and vocals from Sara and Rouzi with an old-skool garage beat. It makes for a real exciting mix.
