The submissions window for Latvia’s selection for the Eurovision Song Contest 2027, Supernova, has been opened. The window will be open under October 1st for Latvian acts to submit their song.
Overhaul of Supernova format
As was previously revealed, Supernova is set for a major overhaul in its format after Latvia confirmed its participation at the upcoming Contest in 2027. The official submissions window was opened on August 1st and will remain open until October 1st.
Any song that is submitted to broadcaster LSM must be fully compliant with the rules set out. Foreign songwriters will be allowed to take part in the selection, but they are not allowed to make over 50% of the composition of the song’s structure or lyrics.
Following the closure of the submission windows, producers at LSM will select the songs which will compete at Supernova 2027. Semi-finals will remain in place for the format, but the final will see a major shift. Instead of a 100% public vote deciding which song will win, a mix of national and international jury will select the top 3 songs. From these, the public then decide alone which song goes to Bulgaria.

Latvia’s Eurovision journey
Latvia made their Eurovision debut in 2000, finishing 3rd with “My Star” by Brainstorm. They have performed at every contest since and managed to win in 2002. Marie N sang “I Wanna,” scoring 176 points and bringing Eurovision to Riga in the process. Latvia also managed to finish in the top 10 two more times, in 2005 and 2015.
Latvia’s most recent entry on the Eurovision stage was Atvara, who performed “Ēnā”. Latvia failed qualified from the second semi-final, with Atvara earning a total of 49 points, finishing in 13th place. Of these, 28 points came from the jury, while the remaining 21 came from the televote.
