As Melodifestivalen 2027 begins to get closer, one of the co-hosts of this year’s national final has found time to release new music! Oscar Zia, who has himself entered the Swedish show in the past, is back this week with new single “offerkofta”. The track comes ahead of his upcoming record “tutto passa”.
About “offerkofta”
Melodifestivalen 2027 co-host Oscar Zia has released his new single “offerkofta”. The new single, along with the bonus track “kompispris”, marks the first release from his upcoming personal and emotional album “tutto passa”, due October 23rd. Through these new songs, Oscar explores the grey areas of relationships and the complex emotions often found in love.
The track is a mix of pop and electro-indie, with an uptempo backing track. The Swedish phrase ‘offerkota’, literally translating to ‘victim cardigan’, is a metaphor used to describe someone who is unnecessarily indulging in self-pity or playing the victim card in a disagreement. Oscar says of the new single:
“offerkofta” is about stopping the habit of calling it bad luck in love when, time and again, I’m drawn to someone who can’t give me what I want. It’s a pretty hard thing to admit, because it’s much easier to say I always get hurt than to ask myself why I keep seeking out the same situation. I suppose this song is an attempt to be honest about that—and maybe take off the ‘victim’s cardigan’ for a while.
The new songs were written by Oscar himself, with co-writing and production credits from Moa Michaeli and Marcus Lindberg. The bonus track “kompispris” also sees writing and backing vocals from Linnea Henriksson. Oscar is due to host Love Island Sweden this autumn ahead of his role as Melodifestivalen 2027 co-host. The singer and actor also appears in the SVT series Boyfriends, which premieres this Sunday, October 4. The new record “tutto passa” is due to be released October 23rd.

Who is Oscar Zia?
Oscar Zia is a 29-year old Swedish singer, songwriter, and actor. In 2012, he first came to prominence in Sweden after coming eighth in the Swedish version of X Factor. Following X Factor, Zia signed a record deal with Warner Music, and in 2014, he released his debut album I Don’t Know How to Dance, which peaked at number three in the Swedish charts. Oscar finished as the runner-up on the eighth season of Let’s Dance in 2014. In November 2018, the singer released his second album, “Din”.
Oscar’s Melodifestivalen journey
Oscar has taken part in Sweden’s Melodifestivalen as both a host, and a contestant in previous editions. Making his debut back in 2013, Zia first took part as a backing vocalist for Behrang Miri and the song “Jalla Dansa Sawa”. The singer and actor made his solo debut the following year with the entry “Yes We Can”, reaching 8th in the 2014 Melfest Final. In 2016, Oscar came second in the contest overall, with his song “Human”, narrowly missing out on a win.
He returned to the Mello stage as a co-host of 2021’s Heat 2, alongside Christer Björkman and Anis Don Demina. For the 2022 edition of Mello, Oscar was revealed as host ahead of the competition, with Farah Abadi joining him as co-host in the Final. Oscar will once again take on hosting duties in the 2027 national final, alongside Swedish actor Björn Kjellman. The duo were revealed as Mello 2027 hosts earlier in the year.
