🇮🇹 Sanremo 2022 dates are confirmed

Reports from inews24 suggest that Sanremo 2022 will take place in the first week of February. Stefano Coletta who is the director of Italian Broadcaster RAI spoke about the festival during a presentation regarding the channel’s scheduling. Although he said he would not partake in Sanremo next yeah 2021 host Amadeus is very much in the directors thoughts in regards to playing some part in the Sanremo 2022 festival. Stefano was uncertain about finer details however Sanremo 2022 being in the first week of February was one thing he was certain of. It is not yet known whether Sanremo will be the selection method for the Eurovision Song Contest 2022.

The success of Sanremo in Eurovision

Sanremo has proved a very successful selection method for Eurovision since their return in 2011, it has helped select their act every year apart from 2014 when Emma was internally selected. Since 2011 Italy has achieved a flurry of top 10s and has finished in the Top 3 on four separate occasions being 2011, 2015, 2019 and then winning the contest in 2021 with rock band Måneskin and their song ‘Zitti E Buoni’.

Italy’s in the Eurovision Song Contest

Italy have participated in the Eurovision Song Contest since the very beginning. The country is considered a powerhouse in the contest. Italy have won the contest on three occasions in 1964, 1990 and 2021. The country did withdraw for a while after 1997. Eurovision saw Italy return in 2011 with Raphael Gualazzi who sang ‘Madness Of Love’. Raphael placed second in the 2011 Eurovison Song Contest after scoring 189 points. Their most recent entry in 2021 ‘Zitti E Buoni’ sang by rock band Måneskin won the contest scoring 524 points in the Eurovision 2021 Grand Final.
