The Eurovision New Year has just begun! But before we get to ESC 2022, we can look forward to the Junior Eurovision Song Contest in December. Dutch broadcaster AVROTROS previously announced that they would select their JESC entrant via Junior Songfestival on September 25th. This week, AVROTROS revealed the members of the Junior Songfestival jury.
Who Will Be on the Junior Songfestival Jury?
As revealed by Junior Songfestival & RTL Boulevard, there will be two juries at Junior Songfestival: one made up of children and one made up of industry professionals. Each jury’s points will count for one-third of the vote; the public will provide the remaining third.
The children’s jury will consist of the following members:
- Unity – This girl group represented the Netherlands at JESC 2020
- Robin de Haas – She was the Dutch spokesperson at JESC 2020
- Jackie & Janae – They were the runner-ups of Junior Songfestival 2020.
The professional jury will consist of the following members:
- Jeangu Macrooy – He represented the Netherlands at ESC 2021 with “Birth of a New Age”
- Emma Hesters – She is a Dutch YouTuber and musician who has released a mix of covers and original songs.
- Rolf Sanchez – He is a successful singer who previously placed third on X Factor Netherlands in 2011.
The final will take place at the Rotterdam Ahoy on September 25th, with four acts competing to represent the Netherlands at Junior Eurovision on December 19th.
The Netherlands in the Junior Eurovision Song Contest
The Netherlands participated in the first Junior Eurovision Song Contest in 2003, and are the only nation to have competed in every edition. They won the contest in 2009 with Rolf Mackenbach’s song “Click Clack” with 121 points. The Netherlands also finished second in 2011 with Rachel’s “Teenager”.
In total, The Netherlands have garnered eleven Top 10 finishes at JESC. This includes 2020, when the girl group Unity finished in fourth place with their song “Best Friends”. The contest was also held in The Netherlands twice: in Rotterdam in 2007, and in Amsterdam in 2012.
Notable Dutch Junior Eurovision alumni include Stefania, who participated in JESC 2016 as part of the girl group Kisses. She was selected by Greece to perform at Eurovision 2020 with the song “Supergirl”. Greece re-selected her in 2021 with the song “Last Dance”, which finished tenth in the Grand Final with 170 points.
