A few moments ago, the EBU has revealed that 19 countries will be competing in this year’s Junior Eurovision Song Contest, which is due to take place in Paris on December 19, 2021, at La Seine Musicale, which can accommodate up to 6,000 spectators.
19 Countries to Participate, with multiple countries returning to the competition
The 19th edition of the competition will see 19 countries participating, with multiple countries deciding to return.
- Albania – Albania will be returning to the competition, after taking a break in 2020. It is yet to be revealed how their seventh Junior Eurovision representative.
- Aremnia – Armenia will be returning to the competition, after withdrawing in 2020. It is yet to be revealed how their fourteenth Junior Eurovision representative.
- Azerbaijan – Returning after a two-year break, it was revealed that Sona Azizova will be representing them in Paris.
- Bulgaria – Despite initially confirming their non-participation, Bulgaria will be participating in the competition for the seventh time.
- France (Host Country)
- Georgia – At the time of writing, it is yet to be revealed how Georgia will be selecting their fifteenth Junior Eurovision representative.
- Germany – Three young singers will be competing to be Germany’s second Junior Eurovision representative, which will take place on the 10th September.
- Ireland – Earlier this year, Ireland opened submissions in search of their Junior Eurovision 2021 representative. It is yet to be revealed how they will be selecting their sixth Junior Eurovision representative.
- Italy – Despite initially withdrawing, Italy confirmed its participation, and will reveal their entry in November.
- Kazakhstan – It is yet to be confirmed how Kazakhstan will be selecting their fourth Junior Eurovision representative.
- Malta – MJESC will once again be used to select Malta’s seventeenth Junior Eurovision representative, which will take place on the 9th October.
- The Netherlands – Jr Songfestival will once again be used to select The Netherlands’ nineteenth Junior Eurovision representative, which will take place on the 25th September.
- North Macedonia – The Balkan nation will be returning after taking a break in 2020. It is yet to be revealed how they will be selecting their sixteenth Junior eurovision representative.
- Poland – After its continued success, Poland has once again opted to use Szansa na Sukces to select its eighth Junior Eurovision representative, which will take place on the 26th September.
- Portugal – Returning after taking a break in 2020, Portugal will be returning to the competition, and was even the first country to reveal that Simão Oliveira will be representing them in Paris.
- Russia – Russia is due to select their seventeenth Junior Eurovision representative with a National Final in September.
- Serbia – RTS has opened submissions for interested young artists, and will be open until September 20.
- Spain – RTVE is set to reveal more about their participation in September.
- Ukraine – It is yet to be revealed that UA:Kultura will be organising a National Final in order to select their Junior Eurovision representative.
Who will we not see in Paris?
With the list now official, it’s confirmed that the following countries will not be participating at this year’s contest.

- Finland
- Greece
- Iceland
- Israel
- Latvia
- Lithuania
- Moldova
- Norway
- Romania
- San Marino
- Scotland
- Slovakia
- Slovenia
- Sweden
- Switzerland
- Wales
In addition to the above, this will be the first year Belarus will not be participating in the Junior Eurovision Song Contest when the EBU suspended its membership in May 2021.

EBU’s Executive Supervisor Martin Österdahl expressed his excitement about this year’s competition and that preparations for the 19th edition of the competition has been ‘exemplary’
We’re excited to welcome 19 countries for the 19th Junior Eurovision Song Contest on 19 December in Paris, particularly those who didn’t participate in last year’s show because of the pandemic. The preparations so far from France Télévisions have been exemplary and this year’s Contest promises to be the best yet. We’re looking forward to hosting young talents from across Europe for a truly magical event with plenty of surprises!

French Head of Delegation and Director of Variety and Entertainment at France Télévisions, Alexandra Redde-Amiel also mentioned that France TV is looking forward to welcoming the respective delegations to Paris.
The entire French delegation is delighted to welcome for the first time in France, in close collaboration with the EBU, the 19 countries that will take part in the Junior Eurovision Song Contest 2021 on 19 December. France TV is looking forward to welcoming these European singing talents to the City of Light during the Christmas season. This unique family event will be a starry-eyed treat for all viewers, young and old. Long live the Junior Eurovision Song Contest!
