After confirming that they will be taking part in the 2022 Eurovision Song Contest, Azerbaijan has been quiet as to how they will be selecting their Eurovision representative. Now, İctimai Television has started to make progress on the search for the next Azeri entry, as they open submissions for interested artists to submit their entries.
Submissions open until the 31st January
Those who are interested in submitting an entry can do so by sending their songs to firstname.lastname@example.org until the 31st of January. Submitted entries, must comply with the rules of the 2022 Eurovision Song Contest, and the applications must provide a brief description of themselves as part of their submission.
At the time of writing, Azerbaijan is yet to confirm how they will be selecting their Eurovision 2022 representative. Since their participation at Eurovision, they have used a mixture of National Final and Internal selections, with the latter being used since 2015.
Azerbaijan’s Eurovision Journey
In 2008, Azerbaijan made its debut in the competition with Elnur & Samir and the song “Day After Day”, which managed to place 8th. Since then, they have participated 13 times (12 of which were in the Grand Final), and have won the competition once in 2011.
Their recent participation in the competition saw them being represented by Efendi, who competed with the song “Mata Hari”, which qualified for the Grand Final. Overall, Azerbaijan managed to finish 20th in the competition, after receiving 65 points from the Jury and Televoters.
