🇫🇮 Competing UMK 2022 artists revealed

After weeks of speculation and endless hints, Finland’s broadcaster YLE has revealed the seven artists that will compete in its national selection. All artists will take part in Uuden Musiikin Kilpailu on February 26th.

Who’s competing in UMK 2022?

Before the UMK 2022 artists were unveiled to the public, all seven artists were teased on social media. With all the hype built up for the artists, fans and press were eager to know who is in contention for Finland in Turin.

To culminate with the hype, a video was broadcast live on YLE’s website. Following that broadcast, we now know who is vying to sing for Finland in May.

Who’s who from the UMK 2022 artists – and what happens next

Among the names chosen for UMK 2022 are a mix of upcoming, newly fledged and well-established artists. Most notable is the band The Rasmus, who have sold out tours around the world with their rock genre. Other well-known artists in Finland include Tommi Läntinen, who is the oldest participant in UMK this year.

Now all the artists have been revealed, each song will periodically be revealed over the next week starting tomorrow (Thursday, January 13th). Once all songs are revealed, preparations can begin for the live final. The final of Uuden Musiikin Kilpailu will take place on February 26th in the Finnish city of Turku. While the exact format of UMK 2022 is to be revealed, a combination of both jury votes and public televotes will decide the winner.

Finland’s Eurovision Journey

Finland debuted in the 1961 Eurovision Song Contest, finishing 10th with Laila Kunnunen’s “Valoa ikkunassa.” Since then, they have competed 54 times, and appeared in the final 46 times. Finland has finished in the top 10 an impressive 13 times. They have won the contest once in 2006, with Lordi’s performance of “Hard Rock Hallelujah” getting 292 points. Finland’s most recent entry was “Dark Side” by Blind Channel. In the Final, they gained a total of 301 points, earning them 6th place.
