With Eurovision edging ever closer, Portugal’s artist for Eurovision 2022 – MARO – is busy releasing a host of new music.
Ahead of her heading to Turin to take to the stage with ‘saudade, saudade’, the Portuguese songstress has released her newest single. Titled ‘we’ve been loving in silence’, the track forms part of a two-song EP. The other song – ‘am i not enough for now?’ was released in March.

MARO collaborates with ODESZA
As well as this, MARO has been busy working with other artists ahead of her Eurovision performance. Before her performance in Portugal’s national selection – Festival da Canção, the artist announced she was collaborating with American indietronica band ODESZA. The collaboration birthed the track ‘Better Now’, in which MARO throws herself into the unknown with excitement and anticipation.
Speaking on the project, ODESZA told EDM.com that after sending out a number of demos, they felt that MARO had the best voice for what they were looking for:
“It’s funny because we tried so many different collaborations with vocalists in varying genres to try to find the right fit for this song when we first made it, but for whatever reason nothing felt right.
We’ve been big fans of MARO and when we sent her a short handful of demos, this was the one she resonated with, and we knew she was going to do something really special with it.”

At Eurovision, MARO is due to compete in position #10 in the first semi-final. Portugal will perform after Zdob și Zdub and Frații Advahov from Moldova and ahead of Mia Dimšić from Croatia.
Portugal’s Eurovision journey
Portugal debuted in the Eurovision Song Contest with António Calvário’s “Oração” in 1964. Since then, Portugal has participated in the competition 52 times – appearing the final 43 times. Their only win in the competition came in 2017 with Salvador Sobral, performing his heart-wrenching song “Amar Pelos Dois”.
Portugal’s most recent participation was with The Black Mamba with the song “Love Is On My Side” – the first song Portugal sent in the English language. The Black Mamba managed to qualify for the Grand Final finishing 12th, after receiving 153 points from the jury and the televote.
