Lithuania is the latest country to confirm its participation in the upcoming Eurovision Song Contest. It comes as the national broadcaster, LRT, announced its intention to participate after qualifying for the final in 2022.
National selection likely for Lithuania
Following their recent success at the Contest with a renewed national final format, Lithuania will likely select its 2023 representative through a national final. Previously, the national selection ‘”Eurovizijos” dainų konkurso nacionalinė atranka’, provided varying results for the Contest.
However, in 2020, LRT introduced a new format for a national selection under the new title – “Pabandom iš Naujo”. Initially won by The Roop, the selection reinvigorated Lithuania’s love for Eurovision and is now one of the most watched shows in the country. The selection has also provided Lithuania with a current 2-year qualification streak.
More specific details regarding Lithuania’s selection method for the Eurovision Song Contest 2023 will be revealed in due course.
Lithuania’s Eurovision journey
The Baltic nation made its debut at the Eurovision Song contest in 1994, where Ovidijus Vyšniauskas represented them with the song “Lopšinė mylimai”, which placed 25th. Since then, Lithuania has participated 21 times and made the Grand Final 14 times. LT United gave Lithuania their best ever Eurovision result back in 2006, where the country placed 6th.
Lithuania’s latest Eurovision participation, saw them being represented by Monika Liu, participating with the song “Sentimentai”. Qualifying for the final, Lithuania finished on 14th place overall, with 128 points.
