After the confirmation that the UK will host next year’s contest, more and more countries have confirmed that they will be participating in next year’s competition. CyBC has confirmed that Cyprus will be joining the party next year.
CyBC to internally select Cyprus’ Eurovision 2023 representative
Before we even has the 2022 Eurovision Song Contest, there were reports that Cyprus will be using a national final to select its Eurovision 2023, with reports even saying that it will be ‘All Together Now’. We have recently reported that they have forego a national final, and it has now been confirmed that they will be internally selecting their representative.
Since 2016, Cyprus has continually selected its representative internally, to great success, as Cyprus managed to qualify for the Grand Final except on one occasion (in 2022). During this time, Cyprus even achieved its best result using the internal selection with Eleni Foureira and their entry “Fuego”.
Cyprus’ Eurovision Journey
The Mediterranean nation made its debut in the Eurovision Song Contest in 1981, where Island participated with the song “Monika” and place 6th. Since then, Cyprus has participated 38 times (31 of which were in the Grand Final).
In 2022, CyBC internally selected Andromache to represent them in Turin with the song “Ela”. During their participation in Turin, Andromache failed to qualify for the Grand Final and managed to place 12th in the Semi-Final, receiving 63 points from the Jury and Televoters.
