Over 33 million people worldwide tuned in to watch Junior Eurovision 2022 in Yerevan. This is on par with the number of viewers to watch the show in 2021, when France hosted the Contest.
International viewership for Junior Eurovision 2022
The final of the show reached a host of new countries during the live broadcast. According to figures released by the EBU, 7.9 million people watched the show on television to see France’s Lissandro take the trophy. Around 500k concurrent viewers watched the broadcast on Junior Eurovision’s Youtube channel. In total, 33 million viewers across 13 markets watched the show.
As revealed by the EBU, AMPTV has revealed that that Armenia’s hosting of the competition had a huge impact, with 4 out 10 Armenians watching the competition.
Other broadcasters who participated in 2022, also saw a larger audience than 2021. Poland delivered the biggest audience with 1.9 million viewers. Rai’s decision to air the competition in Rai1 instead of Rai Gulp resulted in the viewership increasing to 1.5 million, whilst Spain’s coverage was seen by 1.2 million viewers.
The United Kingdom’s coverage of the competition since 2005 saw the show reaching 5.2 million viewers who watched the show for at least one minute.
Social media frenzy!
It should come as no surprise that the mass appeal for Junior Eurovision was reflected in astronomical figures on social media.
Videos on the official Junior Eurovision Instagram account had 7.1 million views. On TikTok, there were 9.8 million views on the account’s videos, whilst on Twitter engagement was up by 40% with posts on the official Twitter account being seen 5.5 million times in the lead up to and during the event.
Junior Eurovision 2022 recap
Yerevan played host to the Junior Eurovision Song Contest 2022 following Malรฉna’s victory at the 2021 edition. Sixteen countries took to the stage on the twentieth edition of the show, held on December 11th.
After a tough competition with a host of fantastic voices from children all over Europe and beyond, France emerged victorious. Lissandro won the Contest for France, earning a total of 203 points, with host country Armenia placing 2nd.
