🇸🇪 Maria Sur: “It would be an honour for me”

Ahead of the final of Melodifestivalen this weekend, Tim gets the chance to sit down with Maria Sur for an interview. She is competing in Melodifestivalen with her song “Never Give Up”.

During the interview Maria and Tim spoke about how it felt to go directly to the final. They also spoke about how she would be honoured to represent Sweden, and perform in the same stage as Tvorchi.

About Maria Sur

Maria Sur is an 18 year old Ukrainian singer. She is originally from Zaporizhzhia, however since the invasion has been residing in Sweden. She has taken part in The Voice Ukraine. In 2022 she was contacted by Sarah Dawn Finer after fleeing Ukraine to perform at a charity gala at Avicii Arena in Stockholm. After her performance she signed with Warner Music Sweden. Maria’s song “Never Give Up” was written by Anderz Wrethov and Laurell Barker.

Sweden’s Eurovision Journey

In 1958, Sweden made their debut in the Eurovision Song Contest, with Alice Babs representing them with the song “Lilla stjärna” which placed fourth. Since its debut, the Scandinavian nation has managed to win six times (1974, 1984, 1991, 1999, 2012, and 2015).

In 2022, Sweden was represented by Cornelia Jakobs, who won the 61st edition of the competition and competed with the song “Hold Me Closer”, which managed to qualify for the Grand Final and placed 4th with 438 points from the jury and televoters.
