As the line up for Eurovision 2023 nears completion, Georgia have now released their entry for this year’s contest! Iru Kechanovi, who was selected to represent Georgia through their edition of The Voice, will perform “Echo” on the Liverpool stage in May.
Iru’s entry revealed via a music video
To coincide with the release of “Echo”, the official music video of Iru’s entry was used to unveil Georgia’s entry.
Georgia returned to a national final format this year, using The Voice Georgia as their artist selection method. Iru Kechanovi participated in the competition under the guidance of coach Dato Porchkhidze. She may be familiar to Eurovision fans as a member of Candy, who represented Georgia at Junior Eurovision in 2011 with “Candy Music”, winning the competition. She was also one of the writers of Georgia’s Junior Eurovision entry for 2022, “I Belive”. For her final performance in The Voice Georgia, she performed a cover of Loreen’s “Euphoria”.
Following the semi-final allocation draw, Georgia will compete in the second half of the second semi-final on the 11th May
Georgia’s Eurovision Journey
Georgia’s history in Eurovision has been mixed since they began competing in 2007, represented by Sopho Khalvashi with Visionary Dream. Their highest placements – both coming in 9th – were achieved in 2010 and 2011, with Sopho Niharadze performing Shine and Eldrine with One More Day. They have not qualified for the final since 2016, where they were represented by Nika Kocharov & Young Georgian Lolitaz with Midnight Gold. They were represented in 2022 with Circus Mircus, with their song “Lock Me In”. At the close of voting, however, Georgia finished last – 18th – in the semi-final.
