🇸🇪 TES Previews: Who is Loreen?

🇸🇪 TES Previews: Who is Loreen?

Eurovision in Liverpool is now less than a month away. In the run-up to rehearsals we will be getting to know a little more about this year’s artists, their discography and their Eurovision journey so far. The next artist we will be previewing is Sweden’s Loreen.

Loreen’s Eurovision Journey so far…

In November 30, 2022 Loreen was announced as one of the participants of Sweden’s Eurovision 2023 national selection Melodifestivalen, where she competed in the fourth heat in Malmö. Despite a stage invasion during her initial performance, Loreen made it directly to the final, where she won the competition and earned the right to represent Sweden in Liverpool. Loreen will be competing from the 11th position in the first semi-final of Eurovision 2023.

In the lead-up to Eurovision 2023, Loreen performed at three Eurovision pre-parties in Madrid, Amsterdam and London.

What do we think of “Tattoo”

The team at That Eurovision Site has been doing their reviews for this year’s contest. Euan and Stuart gave their thoughts on “Tattoo”, which you can see here.

Who is Loreen

Swedish-Moroccan superstar Loreen first came onto the Eurovision scene in 2011, when she participated in Melodifestivalen with “My Heart Is Refusing Me”, but her big break came in 2012, when she won it all in Baku with her song “Euphoria”. “Euphoria” remains an iconic Eurovision winner and a favourite song of many fans and performers alike! She later returned to Melodifestivalen in 2017 with the song “Statements” and is participating again this year with the much-anticipated “Tattoo”. She uses her platform as a musician to advocate for human rights. Her entry – “Tattoo” – is written by Jimmy “Joker” Thörnfeldt, Jimmy Jansson, Moa Carlebecker, Peter Boström, Thomas G:son and Loreen herself.

Sweden’s Eurovision Journey

In 1958, Sweden made their debut in the Eurovision Song Contest, with Alice Babs representing them with the song “Lilla stjärna” which placed fourth. Since their debut, the Scandinavian nation has managed to win six times (1974, 1984, 1991, 1999, 2012, and 2015).

In 2022, Sweden was represented by Cornelia Jakobs, who won the 61st edition of the competition and competed with the song “Hold Me Closer”, which managed to qualify for the Grand Final and placed 4th with 438 points from the jury and televoters.

What do you think of “Tattoo”? Can Loreen do a double and win in Liverpool? Let us know your thoughts! Also, be sure to follow “That Eurovision Site” on Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, and TikTok as we prepare for Eurovision 2023!
