Following his first rehearsal today, our Rory got a chance to catch up with Victor Vernicos to discuss his Liverpool experience so far.

Watch our interview with Victor Vernicos right here:

During their interview, Rory and Victor talked about how his first rehearsal went, as well as how proud he is to be representing his country at such a young age. He also tells us some of his hidden talents, including his passion for windsurfing and his secret cinnamon roll skills!

Victor’s Eurovision Journey so far

Greece’s ERT opted for an open internal selection this year that saw 106 entries submitted. Of those entries, they were whittled down to three songs, before Victor ultimately won; being decided by a combination of a professional jury, and a jury of the general public.

Yesterday Victor performed on the Eurovision stage for his first rehearsal. You can find out more about his first rehearsal, and our thoughts on that here.

Who is Victor Vernicos?

Victor Vernicos Jørgensen is a singer-songwriter hailing from Athens; who is of Greek and Danish descent. He is the the youngest of this year’s participants, and will be just shy of 17 when he performs in Liverpool next month. In addition to his vocals, Victor is also an accomplished pianist, and guitarist; having started those instruments when he was four and eight respectively.

In spite of his young age, Victor already has released seven singles commercially over the past four years. His most recent one, and Eurovision entry, ‘What They Say’ was written by entirely by himself.

Greece’s Eurovision Journey

In 1974, Greece made its debut to the Eurovision Song Contest with “Krasi, thalassa ke t’agori mou” (Κρασί, θάλασσα και τ’αγόρι μου) which placed 11th. Since then they have participated on 42 occasions (40 of which made the Grand Final), and have one once in 2005.

Greece’s most recent Eurovision participation saw them being represented by Amanda Tenfjord with the song “Die Together”, which saw Greece qualify for the Grand Final, where they placed 8th, after receiving 215 points from the Jury and Televoters.
