๐Ÿ‡ง๐Ÿ‡ช Belgium confirms Eurovision 2024 participation

Another day, another confirmation, Flandish broadcaster RTBF has confirmed to ESCToday that it will be participating in next year’s competition, with their 2024 participation being their 65th appearance in the competition.

Belgium’s selection method to be confirmed

With Belgium confirming their participation in next year’s competition, RTBF is yet to confirm the selection method of their Eurovision 2024 representative. During their last participation for Belgium, RTBF internally selected ย Jรฉrรฉmie Makiese to represent them in Turin, where he managed to place 19th with 64 points.

Belgium’s Eurovision Journey

Belgium was one of the debutant countries at the beginning of the Eurovision Song Contest back in 1956. For the first edition, countries could submit two songs, and for Belgium that year, ‘Messieurs les noyes de la Seine’ by Fud Leclerc and ‘Le plus beau jour de ma vie’ by Mony Marc represented the nation. To this day we do not know the final results of Eurovision 1956. Belgium have taken part in 64 Eurovision Song Contests; however they have only ever won once – in 1986 with Sandra Kim singing the song ‘J’amie la vie’, scoring 176 points.

In 2023, Gustaph represented Belgium with the song “Because of You”. Gustaph qualified from the second semi-final, eventually finishing in 7th place with a total of 182 points. The juries awarded Belgium 127 points, whilst the televote gave 55 points to the performance.
