🇸🇪 Dotter, Smash Into Pieces, LIAMOO and Lasse Stefanz to participate at Melodifestivalen 2024?

National broadcasters are in full force when it comes to preparing for their National Finals, One of those is SVT and its national final Melodifestivalen. The rumors on who will be among the final 30 are now starting to surface. Swedish newspaper Aftonbladet is reporting that former Melodifestivalen participants Dotter, Smash Into Pieces, Liamoo and Lasse Stefanz are among those in the lineup.

Dotter

Up first on the rumoured list is Dotter, who has competed as an artist three times, and has written numerous entries in Melodifestivalen. Despite releasing music in Swedish over the past few years, its been reported that Dotter’s potential entry will be in English.

Smash Into Pieces

The next act on the first round-up is ‘Smash Into Pieces’, who made their debut in the competition with “Six Feet Under”, their participation in this year’s competition saw them take 3rd place overall. Currently, the band is in their midst of their tour which is taking place all over Sweden and Europe.

LIAMOO

The third artist in this round-up is LIAMOO, who, if ended up being part of the line-up would be taking part in the competition for the fourth time, with his latest attempt in 2022, where he placed 4th with “Bluffin”. In 2023, LIAMOO was one of the co-writers for “Royals” which placed 12th in this year’s competition.

Lasse Stefanz

Finally, we have Lasse Stefanz, which is one of the biggest fance bands in Sweden. It’s lead singer Olle Jönsson appeared in “Så mycket bättre” and is seeing Melodifestivalen as a way to build on that accoridng to Aftonbladet’s source. The band competed in Melodifestivalen 2011 with “En Blick Och Nåting Händer” which was eliminated in the Heats.

What we know about Melodifestivalen 2024

At the time of writing, the dates of next year’s competition has been revealed, and are as follows:

  • Heat 1 – February 3 –  Malmö – Malmö Arena
  • Heat 2 – February 10 – Gothenburg – Scandinavium
  • Heat 3 – February 17 – Växjö – Vida Arena
  • Heat 4 – February 24 – Eskilstuna – Stiga Sports Arena
  • Heat 5 – March 2 – Karlstad – Löfbergs Arena
  • Final – March 9 – Stockholm – Friends Arena

Sweden’s Eurovision Journey

In 1958, Sweden made their debut in the Eurovision Song Contest, with Alice Babs representing them with the song “Lilla stjärna” which placed fourth. Since their debut, the Scandinavian nation has managed to win seven times (1974, 1984, 1991, 1999, 2012, 2015 and 2023).

In 2023, Loreen returned to represent Sweden, who won the 2012 edition of the competition. She competed with the song “Tattoo”, which managed to qualify for the Grand Final, and placed 1st with 583 points. Loreen won the jury vote, accruing 340 points from the jury, earning an additional 243 points from the televote. This now means Sweden matches Ireland for the record of most wins in Eurovision history.
