As the search for Azerbaijan’s Eurovision 2024 representative continues, we have an update on how the selection is taking shape.
Shortlisted artists now being assessed by focus groups
Previously, we reported the six artists who are still in the running to represent Azerbaijan, which are:
- Aisel
- Emy Lia
- Fahree
- Ilkin Dovlatov, Etibar Asadli, Mila Miles
- Qorqud
- Sabina Guluzadeh
After the shortlist was revealed, 12xal reported that the selection process is now in its final stages, where the shortlisted artists and their respective entry are being assessed by focus groups which consists of International Eurovision fans, journalists and music professionals, and is being done closed doors. At the time of writing, İctimai Television is yet to announce when Azerbaijan will be selecting its Eurovision 2024 representative.
Azerbaijan’s Eurovision Journey
Azerbaijan is a powerhouse in Eurovision, first debuting in 2008 with the song “Day After Day” by Elnur & Samir, finishing 8th. The country has since gone on to achieve five top-5 performances, including one win in 2011. Azerbaijan has a near perfect qualification record, only failing to make the final in 2018 and 2023.
For 2023, Azerbaijan was represented by twins TuralTuranX with their song “Tell Me More”. Perfoming in the first semi-final, the duo failed to qualify for the final for the second time, receiving only 4 points from the televote.
